Preamble: The actions and communications of individual VIAFC members reflect on VIAFC as a whole. Therefore, all members should consider their actions and communications to ensure that VIAFC maintains its high regard and that its reputation and image remain in tact.
CRITERIA FOR AN EFFECTIVE VIAFC MEMBER:
- Become familiar with the VIAFC’s Terms of Reference and abide by them.
- Show respect, sensitivity and consideration for all persons attending VIAFC meetings.
- Respect each member’s privacy and respect the sensitivity and confidentiality of the information discussed at VIAFC meetings.
- Avoid making judgments about any situation in the absence of all of the facts.
- Understand that, as a member of the VIAFC, it is each member’s responsibility to adhere to the Code of Conduct.
- Understand that, should a member conduct themselves in a manner that is improper or unbecoming and/or is likely to endanger the interest or reputation of VIAFC, it may be necessary for the VIAFC to take action as follows:
- The Chair will approach said member to discuss the situation and determine (together) what next steps should be taken.
If the situation is not resolved, further actions will be taken as follows:
1) VIAFC Executive will send a written communication advising said member that they are temporarily suspended from acting as a member of the VIAFC until the executive can arrange for a special meeting of the membership to address the allegations in question.
2) Notify members 30 days in advance of the proposed meeting advising that allegations of misconduct against a member will be brought to the floor by a motion and, in order for the motion to pass, there must be greater than a 50% majority vote from the members in attendance.
