A Remarkable Milestone for Family Councils in Long-Term Care Homes
Independent Long-Term Care Councils Association of BC (ILTCCABC) is a “Provincial Association of Family Councils” representing the important collective voice of residents, their families, and residents’ representatives.
Formally established in 2010, Vancouver Island Association of Family Councils (VIAFC) represents independent family councils from long-term care homes located within the Island Health region.
We are organized into two groups: South Vancouver Island (and Gulf Islands) and North Vancouver Island.
What We Do
VIAFC advocates for quality care and quality of life for all residents in long-term care.
VIAFC guides and supports existing family councils in governance: to be self-led, self-directed and democratic; working respectfully and collaboratively with the senior leadership team on issues directly
What is a Family Council
According to the Ministry of Health, a family council is a group of people who are the contact persons, representatives or relatives of a resident, and who meet regularly to maintain and enhance the quality of life of residents in Long-Term Care.Family Councils are intended to be
